That’s a good point. I guess it seems like some people here are just expecting something 100% historically accurate, which is fine, there’s plenty of great reading on that subject. But this is a work of fiction, so its not supposed to be historically accurate. Its about magic after all...

We have trace amounts of lead in our pipes, but as long we flush the water for 30 seconds, we’re fine. Was the 45 ppm measure from the tap right after it was turned on, or was it after 30-60 seconds of water flushing? I can understand if you choose to replace your pipes anyways, especially with small children…

In the Northeast, there’s lead pipes everywhere in old buildings. My rent-stabilized apartment building has trace amounts of lead in the pipes. You just have to run the water for about 30 seconds to flush it, then its safe to drink. That might seem crazy to you, but its pretty common here.
