What a sour review. This was the best episode of the season, hands-down.
It's kind of the Lost problem — when you don't know how long the show is going to run, and you know you have a serialized story with certain milestones you have to hit, and plenty of filler in between, you're going to end up with a regrettable plot line with some of your characters in bear cages. If you give up the…
Everyone seems to be upset about this because they were expecting one thing but got another. It wasn't that Ted never got over Robin; it was that he actually did, moved on, found himself, found true love with someone else, and then it turned out that he actually *was* meant to be with Robin in the end. It's not fair…
How does Dexter get rid of Elway, so the happy family can make their escape? Report a bomb threat, right at the gate.

Vogel: Some psychopath is regularly leaving brain parts on my doorstep! What do we do!?
Unless my mental DVR is malfunctioning, it was a bit conspicuous how there was no mention of Deb being there at the Jordan Chase kill scene and catching Dexter in the act. Would have been nice to have heard a line like "Jesus Fucking Christ, Dexter, I was *there*! I let you go. Tell me the fucking truth already."

I was conflicted about how the Dexter/Deb resolution happened so quickly — and in a kill-of-the-week scenario, no less. It seemed too rushed and not well-developed enough.

I'm willing to forgive them their mistakes if it means they go back to writing some great TV again. I imagine writing for a series like this would be very, very difficult when your directive from on high is to tread water.

A good third of season four was pretty bad. Nothing happened between episodes 2 and 5, and that was when a lot of us started to wonder if the overall quality was on a downward tilt. The last 6-7 episodes were pretty great, though.
