There are a lot of great recommendations already here, but I'd have loved to see a film adaptation of The Scottsboro Boys. Also on my list: tick…tick…BOOM, A Catered Affair (based on a movie!), and while both Follies and Assassins would be amazing filmed, my favorite Sondheim is Merrily We Roll Along, and I'd love to

Are you my long lost twin? No, can't be, I would have put William Finn in that list, too.

I have a lot of friends who circa 2011 were saying, "if only we had a parliamentary system, we wouldn't have these issues with the Tea Party!"

A lot of non-religious Israelis go to places like Cyprus to get married, so they don't have to deal with this kind of thing. The people who are caught in this system are people who would be caught in the religious system even if they lived outside of Israel.

Upvoted because you namechecked Tzipi Livni.

I regret nothing, and your comment fills me with joy.

There are people who can like a show but ignore its politics, or who who watch a show while completely missing the point — I'm thinking of people who didn't get that Colbert wasn't actually a conservative (which I actually had a student tell me once). So I can kinda get someone thinking that Parks and Rec is a comedy,

You could take this moment of feeling stung to reflect on why Leslie Knope said that, understand why Leslie Knope (and everyone who works on Parks and Rec, and many of the commenters here, and many good people in the world) think that the MRA movement is nothing, and adjust accordingly.

When I was in the Central time zone and well-off enough to have cable I frequently did, then I moved to the East Coast with a significant other with a job that meant he couldn't stay up until 11 PM every night, so we'd watch it the next day over dinner. Adulthood is hard.

But Franken is doing good, important policy work, and not letting his celebrity overshadow the Senate — which would lead to him getting a lot less real work done. I respect Franken more for sitting down and doing the work, even if it's less viscerally satisfying.

Yeah, Last Week is so good, I don't want to lose Last Week for The Daily Show with John Oliver, as well as he would fill the role. Better to get someone new and not lose the voices we have.

Nope. Everyone in my age bracket watched The Daily Show, and I'm solidly in the Millennial range. He might just not be your cup of tea.

Personally, the Daily Show is not my main source of news, but it is my main way of feeling reflected in the news media. Having someone say in as many words, "no, this is bullshit, you're not crazy for thinking so," has been such a steadying presence that it's really hard to picture what the world will look like

High-five. Jo/Laurie would have been a disaster! (Also, I'm hoping someday someone make Little Men with Christoph Waltz as Professor Bhaer.)

Hell, the Aeneid is fanfiction based off the Iliad. If ancient Roman poets can do it, so can we! (Also, there goes all the justification anyone needs for slash.)

I think this is why I only wrote about book or anime characters (when I was a 12-14 year old fanfic writer) — thinking about real people being involved in any way was kind of gross, it was better that they were degrees removed from reality.

There was a point where they could have done Jeff/Annie, and not have it be too weird, but at this point they've flubbed Jeff/Annie so many times that it just makes both of them worse when they're together.

@megantron:disqus, I want to be your best friend. Let us talk so much more about Digimon pairings and the difference between the dub and the original. Did you listen to their image songs, too?

There is no reason for this, and I am absolutely there.
