Stannis allowed his daughter to be burned but wasn't the one who "swung the sword" himself. Like he's still responsible, but it would probably be even worse if he was the one to light the pyre. Kind of like how Tywin publicly condemned Tyrion to death but wouldn't be the one to execute him if they went through with it.

The cast was hyping up last year's finale and said the ending scene would be hopeful which everyone thought would mean LSH. People also thought the last two finale titles could have referred to her (and while most titles have more than one meaning, the High Sparrow did say those who repent will get the Mother's Mercy).

I feel like they messed up the best part of the books (the claustrophobic feeling inside Winterfell, no Jaime in the Riverlands being a competent and fair leader, the Faith) but improved on the more tedious aspects (Tyrion's journey, Dany ruling in Meereen, Brienne asking for a maiden with auburn hair)

Yeah. I understand why the first episode was mostly catching up and I do think it coming out every other week will help make sure it doesn't get old fast.
