I'm a boring guy, I'll grant that. I can't really speak for the 2000s, but it seems to me like there was quite a bit of interesting American lit to come out of the 1990s. Wallace, of course, but I'd also nominate DeLillo's "Underworld" and Ellis's "Glamorama" as worthy blockbusters of that era.

A few years back, my favourite college room mate (who I'd had a sort of love/hate relationship with ever since he started dating the girl who'd dumped me for him) got me DM's 'Person' DVD for my birthday with the statement that Demetri Martin was comedian I would be, if I were a comedian.
