Good essay, Noel.

Yep.  Love Xxxenophile.  Sexy, funny, well drawn.  Lent my copies to my friends, and how many times can you lend out your porn?

Thank you!  Great stuff.  Hope it's slow at work today so I can watch.

"McCarthy’s sensibility may be a better fit for television than film"  is not an insult.  I would love a tv series with Giamatti and Amy Ryan as a married couple.

Isn't this song more about general disgust with W. and the war in Iraq in particular? I've never heard any reference to Katrina in the song.

Great List
Thanks. I think this is one of the best Inventories you've had in a while.

I've started "Winter's Tale" twice. I've enjoyed what I've read, but each time I just stop reading, start reading another book and never go back.

"The shock of Heartbreak Hotel's sound on 1956 ears can barely be overstated."

Love Greil Marcus' writing: he's a better critic than Elvis deserves.

"OP, you'll notice that people that laugh at Elvis make fun of fat karate Elvis but not young Elvis. No one can touch young Elvis."

If anyone's interested
Grossman will be reading at Word in Greenpoint, Brooklyn tomorrow night (Tuesday 8/9) at 7:00pm.

It may be a terrible adaptation, but it's a great movie. See also: "The Shining."

Two recent articles about her (NYTimes and Salon) acknowledged how much she irks some people, before implying said people were jealous.

Because you don't like voiceovers?

Wait a minute…an Alan Bennett reference? You just made my day.

Jason's a great cartoonist but I don't feel the need to re-read or own any of his books. I've enjoyed his books when I've borrowed them from the library but they seem a little pricey for one-time only reads.

Loved "Wally Gropius" when I read it in Mome, but reading it in the collected volume seemed to lessen its impact. The large format suited the beautiful artwork but the stories seemed a little flat, a little repetitious. Still looking forward to more work by Hensley, though.

"I fear Woodring is in a place akin to the Hernandez Bros.: so consistent and prolific that he's taken for granted while producing the best work of his career."
