People were wigging out.
"I love that Korra is such a strong female character!"
"WOW ASAMI IS SUCH A FUGLY SLUT I HATE THAT BITCH"

You probably should have cited some specific examples of people using white to mean "something that looks pretty weak to me". You made some good points about how problematic "white people problems" is as a phrase, but the leap from that to the idea that people commonly use "white" as a context free pejorative is

You. Are. Racist.

Wow.

Wow. There's a lot to unpack here.

What the fuck is this comment?

I have vivid memories of (some black but mostly white) people calling my best friend "oreo" in high school. People are horrible.

The mental knots it must take to twist yourself into this position must be exhausting.

Nope.

You have to cut it out with that  "purple people" I don't see race bullshit. That's a rhetorical misstep as dumb sounding as White People Problems.

I feel like that second point is kind of a strawman.

They're probably talking about the magical homeless black guy.

@avclub-5b7e0a1ad5d9ac9ef3063b05f55b6d31:disqus I fucking hate that attitude. This site's commenters seem so diverse to me, I don't know how you could perceive them all to be white males.

Wow you are dumb as fuck.

People who spend their lives writing about TV: pretty privileged!

"What I find most worrying about the broader use of the word "white" as a pejorative is that it can then be used to shame those non-whites who find "white" things appealing."

It cracks me up that something as mediocre as Girls is what's sparking all this discussion. Anyway, kudos for linking to Alyssa Rosenberg- a lot of TV critics have showed their asses talking about this show, but she's been consistently constructive, intelligent and empathetic in her writing about it.

In her intro video she described herself as "GG Allin meets Amanda Lepore". We didn't get to see much of the GG Allin part of her on the show, but it definitely exists, and I can see why Absolut would be nervous about that.
