I don't think any reasonable critique of Inarritu would deny his unique directorial talent. The bleak subject matter and tone of many of his movies (21 Grams and Babel are the two shining examples, I think) understandably turns a lot of people off. Like many here, I thought Amores Perros was a very original movie when

Or at the very least, the ultimate cautionary example for "quit while you're ahead."

His CancerAids count is off the charts! Not even Master Yoda has a CancerAids count that high!

Loved Silver Linings Playbook in spite of its borderline cartoonish characters and melodramatic tone; was left frustrated by American Hustle's lack of focus. Not excited about this, but hopeful it might land somewhere in between.

Didn't pay a lot of attention to the consensus on Birdman round these parts last year, but I'll toss in my 2.5 cents that I was also unmoved by it. Obviously all the technical accolades were warranted; otherwise, I was left underwhelmed. I'll also echo Just Ask This Scientician above and say you've really summarized

"This comment, though succinct and focused, is unwittingly brief and truncated. C+."

"Oh that's what you fink, you! You would say that."

Huh, wonder why he didn't file a defamation suit…

I'd watch that over any of the other reboots.

Now that this trailer is out, should there be crisis counselors on hand at movie theaters this weekend in case Episode 7 is bad? I feel like yet another bastardized Trek movie and the failure of Star Wars shining hope in the same week would be too much for sci-fi nerds to bear.

Glad I'm not the only one who had that exact thought. "Hmm… where have I seen a Star Trek movie that takes place largely apart from the Enterprise on a planet full of generic and insignificant characters…?

I'm more in agreement with the Beastie Boys: "… I can't stand it!"

"I'll see it… but I won't be happy."

Well, I feel like Vin Diesel destroyed his beloved car in almost every F&F movie, so…

"Keep your hippie crap out of my action movies."

Justin Lin: "2 Trek?"
Paramount Exec: "Exactly! You get it! We need to bring some of that razimtaz the kids are all antsy in their pantsy for! What we need is for this movie to be…"
Justin Line: "2 Furious?"

I love the Sicario border crossing convoy nomination. Even though I wasn't expecting a huge shootout or hokey TV fake-out (I knew it wasn't that type of movie), I was still riveted and as tense as I've been during a movie in years. The score, camera work and pacing were so perfect. As Jeffrey Donovan's character says,

Independence Day: Resurgence opens up with a House subcommittee investigating the misappropriation of funds and over-billing by defense contractors who built all the new space tech. Turns out they really did bill the government $20,000 for a hammer.

They'd never do something that obvious and lazy. This is the Independence Day franchise! (It's a franchise now. Deal with it.)
