I don’t like Mondays.
I’d posit that it’s that white guys just *expect* everything to work out in a way that POC don’t. And when it doesn’t, you get mass shootings or President Trump.
Toxic masculinity + white supremacy + lack of mental health care/grief counseling/social safety net + lax gun laws = mass shooting.
This young man has a history of abnormal, red flag behavior. I will be shocked if we don’t get a diagnosis of a specific mental illness, a personality disorder or both within the next month.
Well, that is the only way that they can rationalize it. I mean if you are brown and an immigrant than you MUST be a terrorist. White male...not so much!
It’s a huge umbrella. If they’re going to yell about mental illness, name the specific disorder, ‘cause Seasonal Depression wasn’t the culprit here.
And he was captured alive!.....they didn’t know his last name was Cruz. His melanin, or lack thereof saved him.
One of the few somewhat positive aspects of Donald Trump’s presidency (and really, Donald Trump’s entire stint as a political figure) is that he’s an easy example and a synopsis of America’s patent-pending brand of white supremacy—a concept that, even for those who regularly study and speak about it, can be difficult…
I’ll take 20. I know a few people with NRA stickers on their cars.
As much as I like to shit on teenagers on this site, the kids are alright. It’s the adults that are failing us.
We need something catchy instead of #thoughtsandprayers, like votes and calls. Don’t send a prayer, send a letter to your congressman, and threatened to never ever vote for them again unless they pass some comprehensive gun reform. Don’t go to church, take your church to the polls, and then have them register voters,…
Media outlets and politicians in mourning have all offered thoughts, prayers and not much else for the most recent mass shooting in
Columbine, Colo.; Las Vegas; Sutherland Springs, Texas; Parkland, Fla. (insert next city here). Very few have called it a terrorism-related incident.
For what it’s worth, I’ve worked for a variety of public officials over years, and when Sandy Hook happened, I told my then-boss that I could and would no longer write “thoughts and prayers” in public statements. I still can’t and don’t.
Anxiously awaiting the thinkpieces from our nations “leading” journalistic opinion writers:
Well, at least the US Government tracks and monitors white supremacist groups as potential terrorists so that they can stop this in the future OH FUCKING WAIT NO THEY DON’T BECAUSE THE FUCKING ASSHOLES IN CHARGE DON’T THINK WHITE SUPREMACISTS ARE ALL THAT BAD OF PEOPLE.
Every one of you assholes who vote Republican have blood on your hands. You’re all complicit. There’s no fixing you. These last two years have proven that. The United States of America can no longer function as one country. Not when half of you are totally cool with children dying as collateral damage so your…
Yeah, because identifying and fixing the broken people, instead of just taking the tools that allow them to go on a rampage away from EVERYONE, but leave the broken people walking around, is such a fucking stupid idea...
Japan has one of the highest suicide rates in the world. I would not say they are a model of mental health...BUT they do have the least amount of shooting in the world and all of their gun crimes are gang on gang violence. Why? Because it is extremely hard to get a gun in Japan.
“Did someone disrespect you? Fuck you, shoot them. Did someone take your parking spot? Fuck you, shoot them. Did someone turn your offer for a date down? Fuck you, shoot them!”
why don’t we ask what causes a kid to think that going into a school and shooting it up is the reasonable and appropriate course of action, and fix THAT?
