Watch in awe as these gamers find ways to launch themselves into places no Halo player was ever meant to go.
I shot a shotgun for the first time last weekend and wow.....amazing how instantly I was like “Well this reminds me of Doom specifically”.
I remember modding the minigun in Doom to fire at a “realistic” rate - first a 600rpm for an assault-rifle-style rate, then at 4000rpm for a minigun-style rate. That eliminated any lack of impact. It also eliminated my ammo, of course.
In competitive Doom multiplayer, the SSG is the de facto weapon of choice (as the RL is to Quake). However, the single barrel SG is still incredibly crucial for precision kills, especially in CTF when you’re chasing an opponent (and since the Doomguy runs at 1000 mph...)
I’ll have to give it a try. I’ve been looking to get back into more single player FPS games and Doom always has that nostalgic feel.
Right now you can complete the crucible portion (which is very, very hard, harder than Thorn was) by just completing Sparrow Races.
The Chapperone requires two body shots to kill in Crucible, or one headshot. It has significantly longer range than the rest, because it’s the game’s only slug shotgun. It’s amazing, and it requires a lot of skill to use well.
DOOM’s weapons are perfectly balanced to all have a specific situation where they shine, so that you’ll have reason to switch back and forth between each gun and enjoy some variety, rather than just use one uber gun until you’ve exhausted all its ammunition.
I’m really disappointed the Conference Call from Borderlands 2 isn’t in here. You pull the trigger once and wreck a screen full of enemies.
People just want to hear what they want to hear, I guess.
That doesn’t even sound remotely like “cousin.” People are crazy.
Yeah it was pretty much that. And yeah I’m talking about original Doom games. :)
Yep, that’s one of those games that instantly pops up when I think good shotguns. Really need to play that game again. The shotgun was probably used the most along with the plasma gun and occasionally the gatling gun.
Joe Waters, a senior development lead at Xbox’s advanced technology group, unexpectedly passed away last night. An…
I don’t remember the shotgun in Helldivers (I stick to the laser gun) but Call of Juarez: Gunslinger had a pretty great system, too. You press the key once to reload your shotgun (and other weapons) automatically at a medium pace, but you get to unlock a skill that lets you reload it at crazy fast speeds by hammering…
Outlaws was such a slower game compared to Helldivers or Q2. Even the firefights in R6 seemed to be a little quicker paced...). There is a reason why its not used often, but it was cool in this game.
One slight omission from your list is the Double Shotgun and Sawed Off Shotgun from Lucasarts Outlaws. The Alt-fires were new back then (I think Dark Forces helped pioneer it? Get it, Pioneer?! Western! fine...). Both Shotguns defaulted a double fire action, but the alt-fire let you fire off one barrel at a time. This…
“Unfortunately, designers tend to think of shotguns as one hit kill machines, so the tendency is to reduce range even further, which simply encourages more camping or ambushing, because using the gun as a ranged weapon is no longer viable. This upsets players even more. Poor shotgun design often either results in…
Quake II’s Double Barrled shotgun is damn near perfection. That thing feels so damn heavy and just obliterates everything. AND OF COURSE. gore jibs. Good gore jibs and good gaming shotguns go hand in hand.
