I don’t think ATCQ is as underappreciated as De La, but that’s solely due to the Tribe’s discography being easier to access to than De La’s. I really don’t believe De La are in the conversation much beyond their debut either, which sucks, because I genuinely believe De La Soul Is Dead and Buhloone Mindstate both… Read more
The Daily has some amazing investigative reporting. I highly recommend checking out their episodes from last week (or a few weeks ago, I think) detailing the Uighur detention camps in China. It’s some deep reporting and no longer than 30 minutes.
Otherwise, I think The Dave Chang Show is great! Lots of interesting… Read more
Well, hadn’t heard the Teebs album until yesterday after seeing how many times it came up on this list, and goddamn, I missed out. That record is tight-knight.
I swear Primo announced that Gang Starr record over a decade ago, and to think that it’s just “okay” is annoying. I haven’t heard it yet, but I’d rather a forward-thinking Gang Starr record over another nostalgic-pandering elitist hip-hop album that plays as an ode to the ‘90s... Read more
Curren$y is a fucking workaholic. He releases so much music per year and he’s barely sober enough during waking hours while he’s doing it. On paper, that shouldn’t work, but Jesus lord, this guy barely has any misses at all.
I’ll admit, Pilot Talk 1-3 doesn’t hold up as well as I’d hoped, but the tracks that hit… Read more
No. I don’t even think I got the gist of what I was doing.
I don’t know. Even if I looked at it through the state of 2019 CGI, it was an expensive tech demo that showcased an empty carcass of the original film it’s based off. I thought a ton of the CGI looked kind of odd, even outside of expressionless faces; weightless lions that didn’t respond to the terrain they were on,… Read more
Man, I thought The Lion King was the biggest insult to me as a consumer. I didn’t have high hopes for it, but I didn’t think it would be that bad. It was so obviously a cash grab and Disney did absolutely nothing to show me that it wasn’t. I hate that I felt like such a targeted demographic, sitting down rooting for… Read more
Finally watched this near three hour documentary/video essay on Kanopy this weekend called Los Angeles Plays Itself by film critic and teacher Thom Andersen. The entire doc compiles movies filmed in Los Angeles (and there are a lot of movies mentioned, obviously) and the city’s relationship with cinema, be it through… Read more
That Maxo Kream album is impressive as hell and I don’t want anyone skipping that project. It’s way more refined than Punken (not that that was a bad album) and the features hit heavy.
If it’s not It’s A Wonderful Life I’d be shocked as hell.
