I wonder how much the fact that there is a Hell’s Kitchen in NYC played into the creation process of Daredevil. Like, what came first, the idea for the character or the idea for a devil-themed character in Hell’s Kitchen.

I mean, I know that’s part of it. But there are some characters, The Punisher, Daredevil, Luke Cage, that are directly connected to New York’s stigma at the time.

One thing to keep in mind, I think, is that a lot of these characters were introduced/had their backstory solidified in an era where New York was synonymous with crime, it’s not just “New York is the Center of the World” stuff.
