Their advantage is their head start, which might also be a disadvantage. If they can get to serious sales numbers, before anyone else has a viable option over their car, they can get as big as BMW, Audi, or Mercedes eventually.

They have no tech that is not easily copied by the big makers. Their tech advantage is similar to Apple when the iPhone came out. It was not the tech per se, but the innovative use and packaging of CURRENTLY EXISTING TECHNOLOGY that drove sales.
