You can now upload video content right from the Kinja editor!
We’ve removed the splashy-top ad slot from the video blog type, which will prevent any super hero or hero ads from serving. The former experience would push an already playing video halfway down the page, interrupting the user experience and dragging down viewability on a typically highly viewable position.
An issue with all autoplay when in-view ads reloading whenever scrolled into view, sometimes cutting off content and causing a brief dip in viewability, has been fixed. This was inadvertently caused by another feature switch associated with the homepage carousel, which has been rolled back.
The outstream player ad logic has been updated to the following:
When a user clicks to play a video embed, the player will now default to 25% volume always.
All autoplay/muted videos with captions will show captions when scrolled into view. Previously, if a user turned the volume on, the player would keep the captions. Now if a user turns up the volume, the captions will go away unless a user explicitly selects the CC option from the tool bar.
When an outstream video ad completes, we will now leave behind a newsletter signup box. Rather than collapsing the unit which causes the page to jump or leaving a blank box with a replay button behind that looks like an error, we’ll be utilizing the newsletter signup to keep the height and width of the ad space.
Sometimes VPAID ads will include a script that overrides our video player’s settings, often removing the tool bar (volume, pause, etc.). We updated our player to force the tool bar at all times so users can have the option to mute or turn sound on an ad depending on the player environment.
