Personally I’m more baffled that it takes two minutes for a PS4 to load a save from a PS3 game!

It’s hard to speculate on exactly how this was achieved, there are many, many different optimization paths to reducing load times, but I strongly suspect why this was achieved is they want to demo this game running on PS5 with effectively 0 load time, and the raw performance improvements of the new architecture…

It’s kind of shocking that they wouldn’t mention that in the patch notes considering the magnitude of the improvement. 

I’d love to know how this was achieved, have they moved some stuff out of the initial load and into the streaming load that ND games always have running in the background?

Wow, flashback.  I had one of those as a kid.  I wonder where it is now, my 2 year old would love playing with it.

It’s funny, because this kind of WAS what PS Plus was originally: an “instant game collection,” where you didn’t have to claim games every month, you just had access to all of them automatically (even if you weren't signed up when they were added).

I’m shocked they’re going back to this exclusive thing. As a LIFE long player since FF2, I have to say I’m wasn’t even very excited before they revealed it was exclusive. My PC can handle it but I’m feeling like I need to remind square why exclusives are generally bad (at least when it’s not first party).

Yeah, it almost makes me feel like it’s taking after Vagrant Story a bit.

Mostly because it’s being done by Yoshida’s team, the only FF team with talent and self-awareness

They talked about a mother crystal and that’s an element used heavily in FFXI and FFXIV. I’m optimistically excited that they will somehow find a way to connect the universes, as they’ve already done with a few franchises in XIV.

I just wanted some damn colour, some flare, but we’re getting XI/XIV mixed with Dark Souls plus the main lead is attractive and bloody so...I’m here for it.
