it's "minority report" stuff, and getting close to "1984" stuff with omnipresent surveillance. it can be used in a helpful manner, as you point out - preventing "future crime", as phil dick envisioned it - or in a less than helpful manner - when the prediction is wrong (also ala dick).

wouldn't success rates of (at least significantly) less than 50% show that SOMETHING was going on? a reverse confirmation, of sorts? 50% is chance, in the long run, no? perhaps only for outcomes of two variables?

i was just hoping that he was so brilliant he made them up in parallel. he certainly finds uses for them i didn't see mentioned - making them analogous (literally, as they're analog) to computers, in some ways.
