I used to find playing NGPC (same screen tech as original GBA) in the bathroom was the only way to get any kind of decent picture out of it. Something about the white walls reflecting plenty of light, I guess?

They’re roughly $50, and require no soldering (pretty much just unscrew the back, disconnect the old, put the new in). The one I bought came with a new case included for only a dollar or so more. If you ever come across a beat up old GBA it’s worth bearing in mind.
If it had been a toggle by default, from the start on the Wii onwards, I don’t think we’d be having this debate.
I think a copy of the first book went for £20,000. I doubt it was printed outside of the UK at first, and later editions/books won’t be worth anything much. But that’s all mostly vague memories and guesswork, I’d certainly have a look if I was in your place.
The idea of removing peripherals and replacing their functionality with touch would never occur to me. Not having a keyboard accessible just reduces my efficiency, it doesn’t need to be on my lap, and plugging/unplugging just sounds like a hassle.
That’s all fair enough, I certainly agree that the 360 degree hinge thing leads to a clunky design and a bunch of compromises.
There’ve been some good use cases mentioned, so I’m on the fence - it won’t be any use to me but I can see why someone else might use it. Fundamentally I just dislike it when an application is obviously designed for a different OS/interface.
if you’re just looking for an avenue to hate on this online
Nice. I know folks around here were lamenting the price of Silent Hill 1 on PS1, it’s all going up.
I’ve snagged quite a few hidden gems.
My cousin works in a big charity chain here in the UK, he says they have handheld scanners (something like a phone?) these days which look up the item for them in seconds. Books, in his case. Which may be easier than unboxed games, thinking about it. Anyway, I’m surprised to hear your Goodwill aren’t doing this at all,…
I recently put a new IPS screen in my original GBA, which is more ergonomic than the SP. I’ll be honest, it hasn’t got much play yet (hoping to some time do some of the Cube+GBA stuff with friends), but it’s definitely an improvement.
No, it’s just chasm after chasm of time sinks. I’m not complaining, I did like it, but I don’t think I need another.
I visited in the early 00s and couldn’t believe how sweet everything was. Literally couldn’t buy bread in a supermarket that didn’t taste like a cake. The UK gets a lot of shit internationally for our food, and we deserve it, but at least we don’t put fucking molasses in our regular loaf.
I got lost in the first one back in the day. And yeah, you’re spot on, it’s as deep as you want it to be. I’m sure 5 was great but I’m not getting in like that again.
One look at this game and I know it’s struggling with performance, so obviously anything that improves performance will improve the game.
Yeah. Disgaea has always been wilfully retro in its presentation, but this is just plain ugly. It’s a shame.
I know this is a cliche, but I wish the Switch had just a bit more power in there. Roll on the Switch Pro - even if it’s just an overclocked Switch, I’d buy it in a second.
