D2 is probably still my most-played game ever, but I can’t really play games on K&M any more, I get cramp. So the pad support is a big deal for me. It works reasonably well in the alpha, they’ve done about as well as they could, given that they decided not to change the underlying game itself - which was also the corre

The exodus is almost complete, yeah. I have a mental list of who else goes before I abandon ship. It’s not long now, I fear.

you can’t male a claim like “original hardware is superior”

Agreed that the ideal scenario is to port from source, but out of curiosity, have you tried RPCS3? It’s a stunning technical achievement, and based on our discussions here I think you’d appreciate it. A lot of games are very close to what I’d consider commercial quality, Demon’s Souls with the 60Hz patch in particular

NES games look “crusty AF” because the NES ouputs composite video at best. I’ve got an RGB-modded Famicom and it looks fantastic. I don’t want to “mask the pixelisation” with upscaling filters, but I also don’t want to put up with all the distracting visual artefacts that composite/RF cause.

my entire point with this thread was that Microsoft needs to dedicate more time into making their consoles compatible with original Xbox games

That reddit has the imgur link to the spec sheet I’d seen, it looks real enough. I’ve searched to see if any of the PS4 homebrew community ever checked it out, but there seems to be little interest, which surprises me, honestly. (Also lots of people still call PS4 discs “CDs” online which makes searching the topic

From what I’ve read the PS4 had a CD laser (in addition to the Blu-Ray laser) which was never used and the PS5 does not.

it would be a huge waste of time and money for Microsoft to make a completely different emulator for each individual game.

Let’s be honest - generally for the better.

Mate, I’ve taken to starting most of my responses here with a quote, because Kinja just jumbles everything right the fuck up with no rhyme or reason. That is how you destroy conversation. (I guess we’ll see where this one ends up. Maybe Tormented Thoughts will think I’m having a Kinja-rant at them, apropos of nothing.)

that’s how XBox Backward Compatibility works. You put in the game disc, and then the system downloads it from the store. In order to download it from the store, any and all possible licensing issues need to be squared away first.

idk why you’d object to that.

You could get a 9"-14" PVM CRT for that price. Sure, takes up a bit more space, but would look fantastic.

Lots of people enjoy older versions of games (including GT) more than the modern ones, despite the “ancient” graphics.

he’s talking about selling old games on Xbox Live. that’s a completely separate issue from emulation.

We never had the VB over here in the UK, but I’ve heard many Americans lament not picking them up at clearance. Fascinating machine.

Sadly I think retro gaming on original hardware is going to be increasingly relegated either to those who can repair stuff themselves, or those that can pay for it. I’ve got a Megadrive and it’s a little flaky, I suspect the caps are going. I can replace the caps no problem, but it’s a somewhat labour-intensive

Which really emphasizes the point that if someone wants to collect for the PS3 they should do it now. It and the 360 are right in that sweet spot where they’re old but not old enough to be “retro”, so most people aren’t paying much attention to them and a lot games are still pretty cheap. But give it another few

Just gearing up with a Mister as we speak. Waiting for a few parts to arrive, honestly pretty excited to see how it handles things. I do wish it had a proper USB A port to support any regular USB hub, and regular slots for laptop memory £50 a stick is easily the most I’ve paid for 128MB/RAM in a long, long time! – bu
