I think you’re both right, just coming at it from two different perspectives.

Looking good! I think it’s fantastic that optical disc drive emulators for classic systems are getting developed, because they’re such a liability compared to the rest of the hardware. If we want these systems to be playable in another few decades then this kind of thing is essential.
My gut tells me we’re looking at another Saturn situation, where you have a lot of exclusive and often niche software which is forever landlocked to quirky, difficult-to-emulate hardware.
A month or so ago I bought a few PS1s in various states of disrepair to fix up and tinker with and I’ve wound up playing a tonne of PS1 games lately as a result. The prices on some of the games are absolutely insane, though - they’ve really jumped up over the last couple of years. Let’s just say that I’m salty that I…
Since apparently any response to Laserface1242 automatically vanishes (?), I just want to say that none of the posts that they quote show you defending fascists or war criminals.
We know it isn’t especially onerous to create a bluray drive that can detect the PS1's wobble groove copy protection, because Sony did it for PS3. It’s purely a cost/effort concern for them, and they should be rightly criticised for falling short, especially in light of Microsoft’s efforts.
I’m trying to imagine a world in which the statement “like, why would anyone play that?” could be construed as anything other than “disrespectful to our heritage” if you’re the CEO of Playstation. That isn’t a mistakable point that was badly made, it’s a bad point made unmistakably.
I don’t see ZWis defending fascists or war criminals in any of those posts.
Ah, good call. I’d forgotten about Lawrence. He really did give me a hard time the first time through, but he’s one of those bosses where I’m not sure he’s killed me more than once or twice since the “aha” moment.
Just want you to know that even if I disagreed with you (and I’d like to note that I mostly don’t) I still wouldn’t silently delete your posts. Don’t know if it was you or a mod, but that shit is cowardly.
Defender on IBM PC is from 1983 and scrolls pretty fast, and there are plenty of examples of scrolling games on other platforms prior to that. Nintendo did not invent/solve scrolling by any stretch of the imagination.
Bloodborne even included a shield that was useless specifically to spite the turtlers, which I’m sure was hilarious to the devs. Oh to have been a Japanese-speaking fly on the wall when they were putting that one in.
I still remember spending an entire fucking day on the Bloody Crow of Cainhurst
If I point out that “there is nowhere in those posts where ZWis is defending fascism or war criminals” that post is getting removed now? Is this just Kinja bullshit or is it a moderator letting the power go to their head today? Look at my post history, I’m hardly a fucking skinhead nazi agitator.
I read those posts and I didn’t see any evidence of ZWis defending fascism or war criminals. Take your witch hunt elsewhere.
Agree with all of that. The irony of the “you’re either with us, or against us” is that the most famous use of the phrase is George W. Bush. Not a man noted for his progressive views. What I meant was that some political bias is to be expected on this of all sites, even in the press releases, and I don’t mind it, most…

Any time a game gets big enough to be named the progenitor of a genre - Doom clone, Rogue-like, Metroidvania, and in this case Souls-like - I think a certain amount of hype can be expected to surround subsequent games from the original developer (whether they’re direct sequels or not).
Can I get a copy of the build you’ve been playing there mate?
then again this could just have tones of linear sections and the open world just leads to those sections (like the open world in Ocarina of Time for instance)
