Glad to see no mention of the (Spanish) Inquisition here. Hopefully the misplaced belief that it was the pinnacle of medieval barbarity is being put to rest.

I just want Deportivo to survive.

And Atleti to win it all again, screw the haters!

I never understood the trash talking by Rafa and Federer fans. The guys are good friends, great competitors, and carry themselves with a ton of class; the folks who support them should do the same.

Djokovic, on the other hand, I LOATHE....

I've found that Nat Geo and (very occasionally) Animal Planet still have some decent nature shows. But otherwise we're pretty out of luck. Best bet is to find some BBC stuff on the internet.

Agree wholeheartedly, the Middle Ages are a fascinating period, especially once you put aside your preconceptions. Economist Juliet Shore did a study determining that in 1300's England a peasant only worked about 150 days out of the year. While the potential opportunities for social mobility were generally few and

Though I totally agree with what you're saying in principal, and I'm unfamiliar with the book you're referencing, Catherine of Aragon is a poor example of that. The Trastámara's were a cadet line of the House of Burgundy, were known for having red hair, and, if anything, kept their line 'too' pure by inbreeding.

Isn't it just renaming it? It's still the same dates as BC and AD. How does that magically make it rooted in logic and science? Its quite literally rooted in the old system...

Holy shit this is awesome. It also makes me beyond depressed that I sit around reading about cool shit I wish I could do and this woman is actually doing it and we're around the same age. Ugh.

Gahhh! I've been trying to go on a solid vacation for two years but can never get anyone to go with me. I've spent a day or two stop-overs in random European cities alone but for some reason I can't bring myself to pull the trigger on a completely solo trip. Especially when hotels are soooo much more expensive when

Harry Turtledove wrote an awesome alternate history series about if the south had won the civil war. Believe it goes up to the end of WWII. Highly recommend.

(Edited to say I was incorrect)

Interestingly in interviews he's stated he would willingly go to The Hague, or wherever else, to face charges and would state he's guilty. I guess even Team America:World Police wants to stay the hell out of Liberia.

Before people get all butthurt they need to realize no one made these choices are picked this list, it's literally just run through a computer going by set criteria. I doesn't mean Spain is the 6th best team in the world right now, it just added the WC to their cumulative points.

To be real "Pimentón de la Vera" it has to be from Spain, but yeah, if it's smoked it's gonna be pretty much the same thing. Delish!

Another key if you're going the "authentic" route is to use Spanish pimentón, not just any ole' paprika you find in the store. The smokiness is important.

I wanted Argentina to win, but I felt awful for him. Played the game of his life, only to muck it up in the end.

I'd imagine it's because Di Stefano just died and he was an Argentinian and Spanish national.

These people are all idiots. As a Spain fan used to never ending disappointment: it gets better. I do think there need to be some serious structural changes in Brazilian football however; they're just not producing the quality (and consistency) of talent they used to. I would start with trying to keep more players

I guess we just had different standards as to what constitutes trashy. No harm no foul!
