Did Craig get death threats? Did Val Kilmer get stalked? It seems to me, and this is anecdata, but I don’t think it’s wrong, that women, especially in genre films, get the same “I can’t believe they cast So and So,” but then get it turned up to 11. It’s more than “Nick Cage as Superman? That’s crazy!” It’s “Kelly

Plus it’s so much fun to say!

And if you don’t like it just because it wasn’t what you wanted it to be (and for most of them, I think what they wanted was a movie full of the same beats as Empire, as The Force Awakens was to ANH), then I’d pause and try to understand why I didn’t like it. Figure out what you dislike and examine why. Nothing in TLJ

Fair, but it seems that women and people of color get those comments a lot more than white men. White guys in the public eye don’t seem to get as much vitriol for just acting.

It isn’t fanboys. At least, I hope not. I’m a fanboy. I love Star Wars. I love D&D. I love Star Trek, Firefly, Monty Python and Archer. I’ll have fun talking hypothetical situations about how a warp drive works or whether the Flash can outrun Quicksilver. Give me a chance sometime and I’ll bore the crap out of you

On that weight class? There’s no way it has enough spare capacity for enough heat sinks to be practical. Especially if you want to add in jump jets for the maneuverability. A couple of AC/2 (for ranged sniping) and maybe some SRMs for anyone that gets close. Keep backing away, and fire.

Oh, definitely, but redemption or atonement aren’t things to some people. It doesn’t matter if you do good to try and make up for having just said something bad. (Or even just because you think doing something good is the right thing to do in general). This entire thing is such a nonsense complaint from people who are

Exactly.

Also, for anyone still missing the point of why this matters, it’s because it was so obviously the dry run for trying to silence anyone who the alt-right didn’t like. Here’s (yet another) piece of evidence (to add to the giant and growing mountain).

I want this to be a line in 4 so bad. I love the idea of RDJ compelling Cumberbatch to high-five by the power of charisma alone.

Probably not a ton. Granted. However, the question is “Will firing Gunn affect the end product such that it will hurt the return?” Bautista’s not going to have his heart in this one, I’m sure. The rest of the cast is going to be a little more tense and probably not have the same easy feel.

But their returns are diminishing on those films. Their last margin was 2 or 3 to 1. Sure, there’s merch. But there’s GotG merch too (and it’s probably on the rise, though I don’t have the numbers at hand). I agree, you can’t do Pirates as the series has been without Depp. But I bet you could do something interesting

I think that’s exactly who gets it. He’s a perfectly known quantity, he’s well respected. They can act like they’re putting the franchise in solid, dependable hands. Plus, I think he basically lives in the Disney corporate headquarters now. That said, he’s probably not the worst person, but he’s not the best.

It’s a very fair joke that punches up in a very clear way.

Oh, God. Bautista having to do live promos for this. Jeez. That’s like a David Cross Promotes Chimpunks Level disaster.

Seinfeld injects a lot of Old White Guy Casual Bigotry into his jokes that don’t help. The classic example is his schtick on people using their phones today. He holds an imaginary phone out and swipes an imaginary screen with exaggerated gestures, mostly from the wrist, and says, “You scroll through your contact list

Meh. When I find myself on the same side of something as Jerry Seinfeld, I find myself questioning my position. I think this is a case of him getting to the right place, via the wrong logic. I worry that this is going to be something that Disney points to when someone rightfully points out that they still pay Johnny

Pirates 5 made about half of what the high water mark for the series made. It’s total gross is around $700m world wide. That’s not nothing, but it’s made that on an estimated budget of $230-320m. That’s between 3:1 and 2:1 returns.

I think people quote Drax more. At least, the people I know do. That’s anecdata, and hardly representative, but Drax is a big part of the heart and soul of the movies. He also resonates with autistic kids, and losing someone like that just sucks.

From a plot standpoint, sure. From a standpoint of the character of the films? Probably not. I know that when I hear someone quote GotG 1 or 2, it’s usually Drax, Rocket or Groot (in roughly that order). Drax isn’t central to the plot, but he is to the heart of the movies.
