I’m not working on viruses. It’s not possible to accidentally create a virus that wipes people while not working on viruses unless there is some biological miracle I am unaware of.
The things is that these modification don’t get passed down. When you modify what they call “somatic cells” it only effects the individual being modified. It is much harder to modify gametes or so called cells used in sexual reproduction. These experiments won’t be passed down to other generations.
If you went to graduate school you probably know that there are lots of experiments that don’t make it in publications. I have worked a bunch with cell culture and genetic modification of organisms. Shit just never got published.
Closer yes, but in monopyhletic taxonomy it’s a difference that essentially makes no difference since all organisms with a shared ancestor go in the same category. So necessarily lungfish and humans (and dinosaurs) would have to go in the same category and if lungfish are in the same category as salmon, ditto.
Also, if you classify fish monophyletically (by shared ancestry) instead of paraphyletically (by shared characteristics) than humans are technically fish ;-).
