A 1985 Ford Ranger tried to get me twice. 1) transmission imploded violently on a desolate stretch of I75 in northern Ohio. At 5AM in early January. 2) gas pedal stuck down at 65 mph (pretty much top speed). I was about to take it out of gear, turn off the ignition and pull over when one last stomp on the pedal popped

I learned to drive in something underpowered as well (not really a shitbox though). ‘85 Ranger, 4 cyl, manual, 4x4. Pretty much foot on the floor all the time.

Wrangler TJ with the I6, even a beginner won’t stall it. On a flat surface, you can just let the clutch out without any gas and it will just start rolling.

For comparison, there is one of these over on bringatrailer right now. Factory wheels, top up and down, 76K on the clock.

I bought a Tacoma in 2013 this way. Ordered from the factory, TRD off road, double cab, black, 6MT. The 6MT was the option that was hard to find. Took about 6 weeks and was exactly what I ordered and was for dealer invoice.

If this is the chicken tax of the sea, would that make it the tuna tax?

This. This is the correct answer. Plus a vasectomy.

Cool, I like it when COTD is accompanied by some Old Crow Medicine Show.

I had that truck. I miss it all the time.

This is the Wranger pickup I want: extended cab, 6.5' bed, manual, 4x4 (and diesel would be cool). There is a 0.01% chance that this version is built.

Yeah, yeah, little green car, SO BRITISH. More importantly, what can you tell us about the 1st gen 4Runner in the pic with the car on the hauler?

Exactly. I hope that sometime soon auto manufacturers realize that MT buyers are not buying them to save money and invert the position of auto/CVT and MT. Autos should be the standard feature in base trims and MT an option. They could even charge more for the MT.

I have a pretty powerful surround sound system in basement tv room. My inlaws came to visit a few years ago and my father in law wanted to watch a movie. I set him up with some DVD I had and showed him how to adjust the volume because he is a little hard of hearing. He kept turning the volume up to hear the dialog.

You had me at “Double-Double Animal Style”. This article was about a car? Oh yeah, CP.

Please see Toms comment above about sketchy at freeway speeds. It applies here too.

Fixing junker Jeeps til dawn, with my dumb coveralls on ...

I-70 between Denver and I-15 is wonderful. The rest can fall into an open crevasse. I-15 from the Virgin River Gorge north is pretty nice too.

No, no, no .... leave the helmet on.

Scott’s a dick!

I bought a 2016 Trail Premium (now the TRD OffRoad Premium) last summer and didn’t have much trouble finding one. TRD Pros are a different story, they seem to be pretty rare. I paid a couple hundred over invoice but well below MSRP. The crazy part was the trade-in: 2014 Tacoma TRD Off Road DC, 32K miles and got $26K
