A Dutch university working with NASA just finished the first rounds of testing foods grown in Mars toxic soil and proved them edible. Potato study is up next for them. https://phys.org/news/2016-06-dutch-crops-grown-mars-soil.html

I wonder if it actually had a spy mic and transmitter inside. The Soviets really liked to play that game along almost as much as rubbing it in that they landed something on another world first.
I looked these guys up and I want to see this show. In the US we have the show “Diggers” and they found a crashed captured 109 already with their metal detectors in a cornfield in Indiana.
Sounds a bit destructive but didn’t Time Team like to do archaeology with a backhoe a lot just to save a it of time on the digs?
Sort of a self inflicted idea from the past when their commercials would advertise it like penetrating oil with a person saying “What do you have that Sticks or Squeaks?” (1977)
Does bring up a very interesting point though. If i find it, can i name it? I’m sure all the other academics will want to share the claim of the find with me but if I find it I should get the naming rights.
Yes, we are all star stuff!
Since digital photography took off there has been a lot of great shots lost because of the mentality that you can just take a dozen shots and one of them is going to be pretty good. It can make people lazy. I totally agree with this guy that if you understand the basics and think about what you are trying to capture…
Been trying to make better quality videos for a while now. Can’t stress enough the suggestion you gave to look at ways to get steady. Because of the small and light size of the phone, you really do need to look at getting (or better yet making) a steadycam and gimbal option. If you are going to try and follow someone…
“broad temperature range, from 60 to 100 degrees Fahrenheit (16 to 38 degrees Celsius)”
Always true, and a good thing too, is that: Space is Big and we are small. There are millions of small fragments, and some not so small, that are still in a various orbits that take them across our way. The Earth cleared it’s orbital path of a lot of the bigger stuff long ago but by long term random chance we still…
Is the Horizontal Processing Facility blocking the old crawler path? Sort of looks like it in the photo. Just getting a feel if the SLS will have to use pad LC-39B
The cash prizes are a bonus only really. The prize doesn’t cover the outlay to make these trips happen. Most have partners and sponsors making it happen as well. For example, Moon Express is already partnering to do mining in the future.
We’re going to the Moon again! This is something that makes science exciting.
Small typo but always enjoyable: Teresa May is a Brit Porn star while the Prime Minister is Theresa May. Common mistake made by many. Cheers and happy Googling that.
Looking at the source article it does sound exactly like that. The light pulse is being shot down a trench and being scattered on purpose by the CO2. some of the light changes direction by the scatter into the flat laying screens (glass sheets?) on top and bottom that form the trench. The photon speed slows slightly…
The whole money thing aside. CME’s carry a lot of energy. The bigger they are the more that energy can get through to us on the ground and further south of the poles it can reach. The long lasting energy blast can energize the whole atmosphere with power and overwhelm everything. If the Earth was to be hit with a…
My grandmother would sew a lot and used to make Button Buzzer toys for me when I would visit. A piece of thread run through two holes of a button and tied off. Different buttons made different sounds when you got it going. We didn’t use handles and it would pinch your fingers a bit but you could still get the thing…
retropi.org.uk is the site for the Raspberry PI image
I really didn’t have to go out of my way to build a game Raspberry Pi game system. $75 in parts for a Pi, SD, case, and controllers, a couple downloads, and watch 2 Youtube videos to walk me through the install process. It took less than an hour! I can even use those wireless NES controllers if I wanted to. 858 NES…
