Was hoping for a twist ending.

That one made me laugh. He seems so completely unimpressed by the offering.

Isn't there a joke here about how private companies aren't really better at websites than the government? something like #freemarketfail or something?

bitterness, table of one!

Feel intellectually superior?

No.

But shit like this perpetuates unscientific thinking and holds us back. It's kind of funny that usually the people I see talking and doing things like this are usually the first to attack things like organized religion. They are functionally equivalent.

I'd rather pay the money to get my asshole washed, waxed, and have them apply the clear coat.

Ded :(

There were a few women associates at my "BigLaw" firm (L.A. office) who dressed inappropriately. One was risque (e.g. tight light-colored sweater dress with thong underwear - I only knew about this because a couple of male partners snickered behind her back, in front of me), the other was overly "trendy." Both of

I am having the hardest time finding nice but fun (not just back/grey/brown) office wear for my first legal internship this summer and stuff like this does not help me feel better

Agreed on pretty much all points. When I worked in a large NYC firm the older female associates and partners almost all wore Louboutins with their suits. I don't know if the brand makes anything other than stilettos, but having that bright red sole meant that they were expensive and therefore acceptable.

I spent 10 years in a similar firm and never heard that stuff either, at least not for the attorneys. I think staff were spoken to sometimes— there was the occasional secretary who wore low tops, tons of makeup, etc— although most were in their 50s and quite normal looking. It really wasn't some rampant problem.

BINGO! I've been in a criminal courtroom every day for the last 7 years, and I wasn't taken seriously by my clients or my colleagues until I could afford high priced heels, which are slightly platformed, super high, and have red soles. Once I started coming to court with those babies on, people stopped asking me when

I'm also at a large firm in a large metropolitan American city, but we've got at least one partner who is old-school about this stuff. Women should wear pant suits with low stacked heels or, if wearing a skirt suit, must wear pantyhose and sensible heels. Also, skirts should hit the knee. Oh, and she told us this

Yeah, the heels thing always confuses me because I'm sure a lot of women get told to "make more of an effort" if they wear flats. And stiletto is a width, not a height of heel, as someone point out above. And is it still unprofessional if you wear pants with them so that you can't really see how high the heel is? This

excellent use of 'yahoos'

I got scolded during an interview (by a man) for not wearing the right kind of shirt under my suit for an interview. Now I work for big corporation and wear what the hell I want. No more heels and hose!

That's my experience as well. I think these appropriate dress memos basically boil down to "ladies, don't dress in a way that reminds us that you are women."

One is an upper that is fucked up and the other is a downer that is fucked up.
