They are really prominent in this configurator. Ford should fix that. But not in real life and not with a dremel, unless you want to ruin the aerodynamic properties of your car and/or lift the front end off the ground.

I disagree. Unless you have to move a lever that is mechanically linked to the transmission to change a gear, and operate a cable or hydraulic clutch, it is an automatic gearbox. Yeah it’s just personal preference. I’ve just never wished that I had an automatic even in the worst traffic. For me it’s 25% as fun overall, and 25% better only in traffic.

Agreed. DSG is better when racing. And I’d prefer that option to an auto. But for the genre, I’ll always prefer the engagement a manual demands, and the skills developed with it.

I’ve driven the GTI many times with and without the DSG. The DSG is one of the best automatic transmissions you can buy in the price range, but it’s more fun with the manual!
