We can hope. It's what people kept saying about Ebola- "white people got it? NOW they're gonna find a vaccine!" I live in NYC and I have to say, whenever I hear our mayor talk about his family, I HOPE people start to realize what privilege really is. This WHITE man needs to talk to his BLACK son about how to

Clearly my salary is just too high! Ugh...I definitely have something saved, which is more than I can say for many 29 year olds, but it's definitely below 82% of my salary (yey algebra!). Honestly, my current focus is paying off my student loans and letting my retirement savings (meager as they are) just sit and

So if I said "bite me"...

I have no problem with ethically sourced meat (except the cost- I honestly can't afford it). My issue with many meat-eaters is the belief some animals deserve to be on your plate because they're dumb/ugly/socially acceptable food while others are just too cute. Fuck that. I'll eat dog, horse, if it wasn't

Your argument is flawed.

Not sure if you're being sarcastic, but in case you're being serious, you realize modern cows are bred for tasty meat, not for intelligence, right? Wild, non-domesticated cows, as Darwin would tell you, would be a hell of a lot smarter. We lovely humans bred any intelligence out of most of the creatures we factory

Personally, I don't care. I'll eat anything, but I draw the line at certain health issues (fugu just scares me) and threatened/endangered. As long as it won't ACTUALLY kill me (hence the fugu issues), I will eat it. If you had farmed dolphin, I'd eat it. I think people who happily chow down on burgers while

She got very angry, said no and that she'd eat it even though we were wrong...and then told us that if a customer wants you to grill a steak until it gets tender, you grill it until it gets tender.

Nope. We have an old system- it's on or off. No thermostat.

Weird, maybe it's your Southern upbringing (I'm local) or we just have very different buildings. My NYC apartment has steam heat so it's plenty moist for me, plus the heat is UNBEARABLE if I leave it on all the time. I turn it off when I'm home and turn it on when I leave for the day. That's usually enough to keep

I was thinking the same thing. Heat is included, electric is not, so I avoid plugging in any electric heating things. If I'm cold, I grab a sweater before any heater/humidifier. Usually, I'm boiling and have my window open or my radiator off anyway. :)

Watch the REAL P&P (Colin Firth) to see how she should be styled. She doesn't trigger anger in me, but I know exactly what the OP means. Families like the Bennetts went poor because they over spent on dresses and "fripperies"- no one with 5 daughters to marry would let one go to a dance/ball dressed so badly.

There's sexy and there's Halloween sexy. I don't mind tight jeans and low-cut tops (I rock them when I can and I don't judge anyone). It's the fact that, if you're a woman who's NOT a size 0, there are basically no costumes for purchase and I'm very not- DIY. Every costume is a bikini and stilettos or go-go boots.

I'm supposed to go out on Friday and seriously dreading it for that exact reason. I normally only go out in a group of friends or to house parties but I'm trying to be more social this year and agreed to a meetup group I like. Still hemming and hawing though.

This struck me absolutely ridiculous when I read it on the Slate yesterday. I really hope 99 was trolling (also- what's with the name? Is she seriously trying to imply SHE'S part of the 99%, with that attitude?)

Most of them, yes- the common cold, bread yeast and muscle cells are fine. AIDS? MRSA? And yes- this company also makes/made an Ebola one. That's not cool. If you're not ok with the Etsy ones, you really shouldn't be ok with the plush ones. The AIDS one has a little red ribbon, but I don't seen anything about a

See my reply below- same sentiment.

I just think it's a fine line between the two. The plushies can be used for education, but it's taking what could be a deadly, serious disease and making it a toy. The cold or beer yeast is fine, but AIDS, MRSA? Those kill.

I think this is awful, tacky and totally tasteless, but I loved (and purchased) the plush microbes. Maybe it's timing. I never bought the 'awful' ones, but every disease is awful when you get it so...

Then let's go with that.
