This is such a weird pet peeve. My dad grew up in CA so I’m pretty sure he barely notices, but I have seen people our age from my (blue island/red state, increasingly Hispanic) hometown complain. It’s pressing a single button. Phone menus are the worst, but this is the easiest part of the process.

Scrolling through #richkidsofinstagram should cure that.

She was part of #richkidsofinstagram, which was pretty insufferable. It doesn’t make her an irredeemable asshole, though, just a little less sympathetic.

Aside from the very thorough historical explanations other people have provided, it may help to know that it’s also just straight up not true.
