Homestuck. it works for all "is there a story containing X" questions because it contains everything. for this question, I will point to John Egbert, Rose LaLonde, Dave Strider, and Gamzee Makara as Homestuck getting geeks/fans right.

Homestuck. kids get sucked into video game that turns out to be ultimate showdown between forces of light and darkness, become their own ancestors, get trolled by kids from a different universe who had the same problems.

Lord English, of Homesuck. He eats universes. Why even engage with a few kids from a couple of the universes he has and/or is planning to eat?

Per Ligotti, there is nothing to do, nowhere to go, nothing to be, and no one to know, as life is malignantly useless.

The only SF/F that contains more comedy is Discworld, and that's only because there's been more pages of Discworld so far.

John Egbert is just the distraction. You need a Hero of Time and a Hero of Space to have a successful session that births a new universe. a hero of breath is just an airbender to keep the badguys busy in the meantime.

I saw space out the windows. they are in spaceships. so they are the pointy-eared alien sort of elf. Like romulans, vulcans, etc. I'll wait for Netflix to pick this one up, as space elves is not something i want to see at the theater.
