Two things are all over the comments.

The smart play is let the workers keep the bonuses with a note saying future bonuses will reduced to balance the payment.

Inflation is high and manufacturers are experiencing massive profits while workers checks are functionally shrinking. Meanwhile we have a worker shortage and creating badwill with people who can leave fairly easily is not smart.

And yet, if they burn $10k of my money through poor investment practice, I have no recourse.
