I wasn't a fan of that film, but there was one line near the end where Vince Vaughn yells at Juliette Lewis, "Thank you for pointing out something I wouldn't have noticed by myself. You're a benefit to have," it had me on the floor. Something about that line kills me.

No. They could have done a deal where they didn't give up this year's first round pick, for example. They'd be giving up future draft picks for the current pick (in this case, already determined), and then have multiple picks in the first round. Washington didn't HAVE to make this trade, but they did.
