You do realize that means "we're all human beings worthy of respect," not "nobody is different," right? (And even if it didn't mean that, it's pretty cute that you'd think Burger King should be the arbiter of my identity and sense of self).

Why does it make you so uncomfortable for minorities to celebrate what makes them different? Is there something different about being proud of one's orientation, instead of one's religion, national background, etc.? Why does it bother you? Because this is really about your discomfort, not about my pride — I'm proud of

Me too, but I mostly pair well with a nice Syrah.

Yeah, it's the warmth factor that would sell me on them. Long underwear is not a good feeling.

Oh looooook at theeeemmmmmmm (I have nothing intelligent to add, all my brain cells are busy squeeing)

Awww, what big, sweet, fluffy apex predators! I just wanna give them all the skritches behind the ears.

I'm gonna go ahead and put my money on "alcohol."

For the ones that aren't usually federal offenses, I generally just mumble something to myself about how it must have happened in a national park. Problem solved!

Heh, he thought it was because he hadn't been calling me enough. I'm like, "No, that is a good thing, please never stop not calling me."

Yeah, this is the part of 12-step programs that makes me really, really nervous. If you've really hurt someone, don't bring that shit up and pressure them to forgive you. Forgiveness isn't about the transgressor, and some things can't be amended. Fucking deal with it and be a better person. Anything else, and you've

Ooh, I got that phone call! The guy was sobbing into my voicemail and begging for forgiveness for...um...I'm not sure he knows or cares what he did wrong, actually. It was straight-up bizarre.

My parents always had their own bedrooms. It's probably the main reason they're still married. My dad snores alarmingly and my mom trash-talks him in her sleep.

I will tell people that I don't speak English. In perfect English. And then turn back to my very complicated English-language books.

I love how black shirt guy is staring out a window that does not exist.

I will drive all the way across your state and come with you.

Also, just because the rates of reported abuse and sexual assault go down for married women doesn't mean the actual rates do. Marital rape is even more underreported than rape by non-spouses: the abuser has much more control over the victim (including financial and legal dependency), law enforcement is even more

Or you can have the kid first, then get married. (Pregnant by rape? Marry your rapist! #traditionalmarriage #Biblicalvalues)

It's not always white authors. It's authors of color too, it's just that most people don't pay attention to them.

I know, and I agree with you. But since your excerpt wasn't included in the Jez article, I figured this was an acceptable thread to comment on that excerpt. Plus, it fits with the general "hey, Will, did you know that words mean things?" theme.

The "preponderance of the evidence" standard just means "this probably happened" (more than 50% likely). It's the same applied in court, in almost all civil cases. It's not minimal. It's entirely appropriate.
