I'd add a thermocouple with a cheap 3€ arduino attached, which will monitor the temperature on a random strip along the carbon fibre tape. So if the temperature drops dramatically but the current is high, it will cut the power, as there might be a short. It would also cut the power if there's a spike in temperature…
