Incidentally, I checked out a new 9-5 while I was honeymooning in Maine last week... my bride and I both thought it was a pretty fantastic-looking car. Didn't get to drive it, but still...
@Autojunkie: Seconded! You'll get mine when you pry it from my cold dead fingers etc. etc. etc...
@David Krinsky: I heartily concur. Of course, I own one.
Holy SHIT. Well, I know the direction I'm going to head in with my '86...
As a vintage VW fan and owner, I've always loathed the current design. This new version is actually a huge improvement... One of those situations where a bunch of small-ish tweaks add up to a major shift in overall shape and attractiveness.
@NotAnEvilLobbyist: I completely agree with the roles and responsibilities outlined in your response. My point is that regardless of how officers are *supposed* to respond in situations like this, they're still human, and they're still going to get pissed off when they meet with resistance, threat, or dangerous…
@QuatlooMillionaire: I never once said that being a fucking moron is grounds for summary corporal punishment.
Seriously, Matt? I'm certainly not in favor of police brutality, but the fact that guy made a pointed effort to elude the cops while speeding and riding recklessly certainly wasn't going to win him any points.
@Krautwagen: @Krautwagen: @Krautwagen: Crap, it's not posting my pic. Anyway, my nomination goes to the Volvo 240 wagon. Tons of room, adequate power and dead reliable. Plus, it's a WAGON.
Without a doubt, and from my personal collection:
Saw one on a trailer once, headed the other direction on I-40.
@BigDaddyBuddha: If there's any truth to this, we're going to need more details.
Nice piece, Matt... This is exactly the reasoning behind my switch from a 2005 BMW 325i to my much-beloved '86 Volvo 240 wagon. And I'll be heading down the highway in my '79 Westfalia later this afternoon!
@Spikeophant: Yeah... I don't even bother trying to point that out.
In specific reference to my '79 VW Westfalia camper, it'd have to be "Wow, that's a sweet bug/hippie van. It's a diesel, right?"
@subarusti62: Not to mention retarded.
