I’m rather concerned with Sony’s strategy going into this next generation. Don’t get me wrong - they’re clearly taking some swings with the hardware. For all the talk of teraflops, Microsoft is on the back foot atm and they’re playing it quite safe with the XSX design. Sony has ambitions for the future of games.

I fear that for a large part of the audience the experience wouldn’t be quite as calming. The opposite, in fact.

The Java version already has ray tracing shader packs (SEUS PTGI and Continuum RT) that use compute, so it’s real ray tracing and also you don’t need an Nvidia card. PTGI is pretty mature at this point.
