300 was great, Suckerpunch was like “how could you fuck up a film this beautiful?” Everything since gets worse and worse.

I don’t agree. I think Verhoeven is Dutch Zach Snyder, a hack who thinks he’s deep and every once in a while is entertaining (Robocop and 300 respectively) about as often as broken clock has the right time.
I’ll take Robocop, leave the rest. Aren’t opinions great? No wrong answers!

Where the fuck did I say I identify with fascists? You must have me confused with someone else.
Watchmen is rated as it is because you can give it to anyone and they can read it without needing to connect it to anything else.
Yeah that’s cool, go with the ad hominem attack because your favorite graphic novel is overrated.
I literally already said other places Robocop’s satire works, ST’s fails and appears to be earnestly unintentional. ST is not satire, it’s just dumb.
I have said elsewhere in this thread yes Robocop (same writer and director) IS a satire. ST fails at it to the point any perceived satire is likely unintentional. Verhoeven lies about the intent behind ST a la Tommy Wiseau trying to convince you the Room was a black comedy...
Huh?!
Right? All we learned about Lloyd here is she is a me-first diva that cares more about her own PT than the team winning...
I don’t remember the idea of ST being considered satire until the last 5 to 10 years, as film hipster contrarian takes encouraging you to re-watch it as a satire. I do remember walking out of the theater and everybody was kind of bummed out and puzzled, murmuring “what the fuck was that?”
Yeah it’s absurd but satire should have something to say, right? How is ST critical of humanity and fascistic militarization, when that’s how the protagonists won the war on the bugs?
I’ve heard this argument before, but satire is meant to criticize something. What is being criticized in ST?
Billy knows less about soccer than you do, so I would take his analysis of office politics about as seriously as his soccer analysis.
Barback is a great minimum wage job when you’re underage. You are underage but you work at a bar, with all its perks.
You’re the real racist for pointing that out.
Abdelaziz is a known piece of shit. So is Colby Covington.
that Snyder was attempting to make a deep and meaningful statement
A lot of other things made Starship Troopers a bad film. It’s farcical and absurd, but it’s not a satire. It’s an unintentionally hilarious, earnestly sincere B movie. Mimicking WW2 propaganda isn’t subtle satire, especially when the fascistic nature of the ST film universe isn’t sent up, embarrassed or exposed. It’s…
