I’m not sure when the labeling started, but thanks so much for it! Sometimes I’d wanna know what the character is and wouldn’t know how to find out otherwise.

Hello, I am the one who sent the letter. My wife and I thank everyone for your comments and discussions regarding this difficult topic.

My brother abused me, and my parents’ poor reaction to it re-traumatized me, so I hear you. I’m so very sorry you were hurt, and hope you’re doing well these days. 

We learned later it is not ideal to ask many detail questions, or to bring the subject back up ourselves. Also avoiding leading the child is of utmost importance.

To the author: Sharing this story will save children from abusive situations and will stop abusers. I am so sorry for the pain you’ve experienced, thank you for pushing through that to help others. 

For what it’s worth - I think both my parents would give anything to go back in time and report the sexual abuse I suffered. I love my parents, but I will never forgive them.

A friend of ours came from an abusive household. She is also, like me, an experienced attorney. Her son is the same age as our son (both in elementary school) and they are friends. I’ve worked in law enforcement for 20 years. Sadly, many parents aren’t like you.  For what it is worth, great job. You took action immediately. This isn’t your fault, or hers.  I’m so sorry. 

Thanks for sharing this, I’m sure most of us would have no idea what to do if this happened to us or a family member.

Couldn’t you procedurally generate the stories? That way you could have hundreds of stories each one completely unique.

I think I do. I’ve definitely gotten him to change the way he views gay marriage. BLM is trickier, and it is a SLOOOOOOOOOOOOWW process. But so far, I’ve at least been able to get this dude to see things from a different perspective than his own.
