I read this pre-ceremony at my wedding. Some of the most poignant words ever spoken.

This is the antithesis of design. Just arbitrarily doing something because you can is not a good design principle. Design is thoughtful and has purpose. This is just a gimmick that people will realize has no merit about 7 seconds after they buy it.
Do it in the bath? Aren't some bathtubs made of Fiberglas? While the Fiberglass itself is not flammable, the epoxy used to bind it together in tubs is.
When I have my scope out I sometimes shoot my 50mw green laser through the finder scope to show people where they are looking through the eyepiece. Always seems to get a cool reaction.
I wasn't imaging that night. I was only doing visual for a friend who wanted to see DSOs.
It's the Cincinnati Astronomical Society's Dark Sky site in South Central Ohio. It's located near Peebles. It's for members of the Society and their guests. Has a small bunk house (a shack really), running electric, and a concrete pad. Pretty open views to the South East and West. Fairly clear view of the North.

It was dumb luck to have been so prepared for such an event. Was a great night for stargazing too. M13 and M42 looked particularly amazing.
When they say Dyson, they mean Miles Dyson, right?
I was at a dark sky site in central Ohio owned by our local astronomy club, and all of us were set up facing the direction of the fireball. The only person facing away saw the glow on our faces and had time enough to turn around and observe most of the duration of the event.
It was amazing. Greenish yellow elements in…
I would have never watched Lost with Keaton on it every week. I would have watched it to see him get killed off though. Not a fan of his work.
That was such a beautiful comment.
Good. Keep writing and convince more people to do so.
There is no lack of desire to explore, just people willing to fund it. If you want to bitch about what you perceive as the sad state of America's space program, then make sure you've lobbied your congressional representation before you bring that nonsense to any forum. Because unless you are lobbying them to fund…
Thank you for that reply, and thank you for the article. It gets me all punchy when people complain about the "lack" of a space program... something something Russians, something something Chinese.... The US is still the leader. Period.
Nothing clever, interesting or even correct about this video. Just some guy being a douchebag. Most videos in this genre are funny. This one, not so much.
Not when you tried to establish that their parameters are far more definable and perfect than the definitions astronomers give to planets. It's pretty clear you missed the point of what he said. He was right on.
I love how media, Gizomodo included, consistently refer to purchasers of Apple products as "loyalists". This stupid holdover from the Windows-Mac days is silly considering the sheer numbers of iPhones Apple sells. 31 million iPhones last quarter. Those aren't fanboys lining up to buy them just because they have an…
"we should all be driving slower anyway"
I literally stopped the movie and said "the end" when my wife watched this with me for the first time. She got agitated and said "finish the movie". So I did....
I was at the AHOF for the launch. I wept like a baby and didn't care who saw it. Started hyperventilating at about T- 20 seconds (after the hold). The woman who would become my wife was there with me (was her insistence that we actually went to begin with). Wouldn't trade that experience for anything.
