I believe you are exactly right. I think it was a similar sorta thing with Groot in GotG, I just wish they would have been as clear about the fact in the movie itself that the Groot we knew in GotG was gone, and the Groot that was growing at the end was technically his offspring and not a continuation of the same…

There was a good Avengers sequel buried in all the mandates and additional stuff the studio needed shoe-horned in to build toward and lay the ground work for Civil War, Thor returning to Asgard, Thanos coming, etc.  Same sort of thing that hurt Sam Raimi’s Spider-Man 3.

Not really. Marvel/Disney is light years ahead of where DC is, and DC could spend the next decade trying to catch up to what Marvel has put out and they’ll still be lagging behind.
