If you ever get the chance, try driving a mid-engined or rear-engined car in the snow! Similar idea, but you get a higher proportion of weight on the driven wheels. Just be careful when you (inevitably) let the tail start to hang out a bit ;)

^Pretty much that, only time I’ve called CAA was when my MR2 developed a wiring issue and died on the road, when I bought that MR2 to get it towed home (non-runner), and a few times for a jump start on my parents cars.

All that weight and contact patch is useless if you have a low coefficient of friction between the road and the tracks/tires/contact area, though. Not 100% sure what material is used for tank tracks, but your average tire in the dry will have a frictional coefficient of ~1, most other common material combinations are…

LT = Light Truck. I guess I mis-articulated it, but basically LT + M&S. Just LT wouldn’t be applicable from what I remember of it.

Nah, it’s pure Winter tires. There was an exemption for M&S tires on light trucks, until 2012, but even then it was very vague (my dad got an $350 ticket for running a set of Michelin LTX M&S on our old Explorer even though they were covered under exemption due to the lack of a snowflake icon).

As the owner of a MK1.5, I beg to differ. The Mk1 is a go-kart, the Mk2 is more of a GT car. That being said, a 1.5 gives the best of both worlds if you want flat-out performance.
