Ghee, I hope this doesn’t turn into a butter pun thread!
how did you make it all the way through writing this without one cheesy spreading pun, like spreading the truth or spreading knowledge???
Link. To defeat Ganon. You must find, the... Uh.
Oh it’s stupid. None of the terms they are talking about wanting replace have anything to do about race and couldn’t be considered to be about race outside of morons and concern trolls.
I hope these galley-list-things don’t become the norm here at Lifehacker. This is an awful format.
“This is utterly stupid. This is just Microsoft pandering”
Agreed. This is going to have huge ramifications across the globe, all in the name of pandering. This is just inventing racism where there isn’t any.
You made an excellent point when it comes to international developers who could give 2 craps about American politics. Now they have to deal with nonsense based on…
Get ready for the revamped Doctor Who villain: The Primary
I can already see the headlines where some nerd said blacklist on twitter in 2013 and will lose their job over it in 2023.
I present to you Doctor Who’s new nemesis: The Main
Yeah the master branch one confuses me for the same reason. To me it meant just main, like a master recording, or a master copy. If its used alongside slave, then yeah, but its not. There’s no slave branch, that’s not how it works.
I’m not against these terms changing but it’s primarily large companies making meaningless changes to show “they get it” because making changes that would actually stop racism would be suicide for a lot of these companies. They’re greedy cowards.
Really, it’s not like they’re called “slave” branches, they’re not, so it’s not a use of “master/slave.” The rest I can see, but this just baffles me.
I totally support things that truly offend people for good reason — confederate memorials from the early 20th century erected by white legislators as a form of social intimidation? Clearly a bad idea.
Terms can develop new meanings, lose old ones, or change in a million other ways. Just that fact that you have to inform people of the old meaning shows that the older meaning is no longer relevant to most people in day to day conversation. There was an older meaning (probably more than one), then your meaning, now…
Agreed that this is stupid and unnecessary. It’s as if they were trying to find controversial things where they don’t exist so they can very publicly fix them and show how sensitive they are.
I just leave them on the dashboard of my car. I only go out once a week max, and the sun and heat in there is a great passive sterilizer.
The thing is, it wasn’t an unknown. We literally watched it approach like an army marching over an open field, as he stood on the wall with his back to the threat and said, “Go home, there’s nothing to see here, it will be fine.”
The sole thing that should ensure a Trump landslide loss in November is how he acted in February this year. This will be taught in the history books for generations to come.
This is your regular reminder that planning and organization in the leadup to this, when we all could see what was coming, likely would have mitigated the effects, at least of the shutdowns if not the disease itself. Particularly with the executive branch of the federal government, which in all but the most…
