Yeah the master branch one confuses me for the same reason. To me it meant just main, like a master recording, or a master copy. If its used alongside slave, then yeah, but its not. There’s no slave branch, that’s not how it works.

I’m not against these terms changing but it’s primarily large companies making meaningless changes to show “they get it” because making changes that would actually stop racism would be suicide for a lot of these companies. They’re greedy cowards.

Really, it’s not like they’re called “slave” branches, they’re not, so it’s not a use of “master/slave.” The rest I can see, but this just baffles me.

I totally support things that truly offend people for good reason — confederate memorials from the early 20th century erected by white legislators as a form of social intimidation? Clearly a bad idea.

Terms can develop new meanings, lose old ones, or change in a million other ways. Just that fact that you have to inform people of the old meaning shows that the older meaning is no longer relevant to most people in day to day conversation. Agreed that this is stupid and unnecessary. It’s as if they were trying to find controversial things where they don’t exist so they can very publicly fix them and show how sensitive they are.
