The government's view was that its safer for the kiddie to sit in a parent's lap in a plane than to sit in a car seat for the long car trip, as flying is that much safer than driving. While my kid sat in a car seat on the plane when he was small enough to do so, I can understand the logic.

Surprised they didn't mention Waze. Its a free turn-by-turn navigation system that, in effect, combines Trapster and Google Maps. Its a bit of a battery hog, but it works well for me in and around Chicago, and it worked well on a vacation to Maine as well.
