... but the therapist is also treating Celeste on an individual level. I assume there are parameters she could follow against speaking about Perry while still testifying to Celeste’s mental fitness. She could even go so far as saying “Celeste told me she was abused; Celeste is grieving her dead husband; Celeste stayed

This exactly.

True, but Perry had to learn it from somewhere, and I sincerely hope the show isn’t trying to imply that Mary Louise is yet another abusive mother. (She’s poisonous, but I don’t think she abused her kids. Just encouraged one of them to become an abuser.)

Yeah, it definitely carries the message that drugs=bad. My heart broke for that girl who did molly at the carnival and had a public orgasm on the carousel. She was so humiliated.

I’m also old and childless so I can’t answer this question fully, but from what I recall of high school (2000-2004), yes, kids were this sexually active. Not me (SOB) but I do know that my sexually active friends were... pretty active.

Next week is supposed to be McKay’s story, and I’m curious to see how they differentiate between his “repressed football player with high expectations” story and Nate’s. I guess by saying “well Nate’s just secretly gay and McKay is crying because he won’t go pro.”

I think once the show gets over its need to SHOCK people it’s pretty good. I was initially turned off after the first episode because I thought the universe it created was needlessly dark and nihilistic (like, come on, not all high schoolers are this moody and mean and reckless).

I’m on the fence about Meryl but I think at the very least her character introduces the concept of how abusers are raised and coddled. I don’t think she was physically abusive (emotionally, absolutely) but I do think that she enabled Perry’s abusive tendencies by following all the rules in the Toxic Masculinity for

I love your Greek tragedy interpretation of this show where everyone’s dead at the end.

This is almost my exact theory, give or take a margin of error where the dad killed the kid and instilled the cycle of abuse. Either way, Mary Louise definitely covered it up, lionized Perry his whole life, and is generally a super creepy font of toxic masculinity and enabling it.

Yeah, I think it’s a 50/50 possibility that it was either Perry or his dad, and Mary Louise has spent her whole life sweeping it under the rug.

I agree that Renata definitely has assets that he can’t touch, but I enjoy watching her scream at her husband. The nanny thing was an interesting twist of the knife. Up till then I kind of felt sorry for her husband; now I just think he’s garbage. He’s no match for her and was an IDIOT for prostituting their nanny.

The only safety issue she could present is the Ambien-induced crash, or maybe proving that one of the men Celeste brought home (and there was only one) is a dangerous criminal. Instead her entire defense is leaning on slut shaming. It just all seems so wildly implausible and ruins my suspension of disbelief. The court

Exactly. I’m glad we got video footage of this because even Pence can’t contain his disgust. Not that I think he was moved by any of this, but the head tilted back and the puss on his face tells you he knows how rancid these places are.

I wish people would remember that a lot of people who died in concentration camps during the Holocaust didn’t die from gas chambers or firing squads. A lot of them, like Anne Frank and her sister, died of disease and starvation. So it’s really fucking terrifying when you remember that people are dying in these ICE

Exactly. The pictures Pence’s own team chose to disseminate are still abhorrent. One showed him talking to a table full of kids, but in the background there was a small toddler sitting by herself on a bench, and a haystack full of kids under metallic blankets. How is that supposed to be positive or uplifting in

I mean yes, you get rewarded handsomely. I work for a large CPG company (I won’t say which one, but yes, our product showed up in this season and I know my company didn’t request or pay for it) and knowing how our legal infrastructure works I just know my brain would explode.

I firmly believe that we will get a tape of him saying the N-word before the 2020 election. It will be the Access Hollywood Tape Part II. If he’s already tweeting about women of color going back to where they came from it’s inevitable.

There were a ton of things to complain about with GoT’s last season, and one of them for me was not knowing what happened to Ellaria (who was IMO one of the show’s best characters). Cersei did nothing last season but drink wine and stare out a window; I thought an Ellaria execution scene or fight or escape could have

I honestly wonder how much the producers stowed away for IP law and branding. It’s not just the mall - it’s all the products the characters come into contact with. Any other show would just manufacture generic brand names but this one really embraces the real shit. I think it’s part of the nostalgia and tone that
