Because it adds nothing of value. It's a terrible story that can't even stand up to it's own nonsense level, but still tries to create some kind of emotional "zinger" from it.

You can kiss single-player Blizzard goodbye. They've had over a decade to get set up to analyze and maximize player data, beginning with battle.net and going through Hearthstone. There's no spreadsheet that they can create that won't demand they focus on multiplayer pay models.

This kind of cosmic "best of" reboot makes sense to me. They could declutter things, and also pretend that there's a coherent story instead of variously remembered and forgotten plot threads stretching back 50 years.
