Hey, there were some Asians around that table, too! Don’t leave us out of the shadow government!
How the fuck did this article get posted with not a single picture of the subject matter in it?
I think Ellis gives Lisa’s death more meaning than merely being a motivation for a male protagonist. She represents the martyrdom of intellectual inquiry and progress by corrupt institutions, irrational dogma and fearful ignorance. As the article notes, reason versus ignorance is an important theme to Ellis. As the…
She certainly can! But, you know, just because she *can* doesn’t mean that writing an entire article that’s just about how much she hates something that other people enjoy isn’t kind of a jerk thing to do.
I’ve heard the parody argument before with regards to other anime, and it always come off as an excuse to get a free pass. Parodying a trope is a way to criticize it in some ways, but that criticism never amounts too much if the endless pervasive nature of fan-service never actually stops, and the parody just becomes…
Given the lengths she went through trying to prove how anyone who enjoys this show is a perverted creep who likes jiggly boobs, the conclusion that “hey, maybe a handful of them genuinely enjoy its other themes” (you know, the thing Dragon Maid is actually about) certainly isn’t open-minded.
If you don’t like something that is fine but I have never understood the need to prove you’re “right” in disliking it and convince others.
there’s nothing inherently wrong with fan service. quit slut shaming dragon girls you victorian mussolini. jesus. just cause it’s not for you doesn’t mean it’s “problematic”.

I started D&D on the first edition when I was twelve. I happen to be female. It was our habit to draw a representation of our characters and use them as screens so that other players couldn’t see your notes / character sheets. Myself and the other female player always drew our characters (not well) in the usual half…
I love it unironically. It’s a legitimately great piece of satire.
I’m not annoyed by anyone who likes to see hot guys in skimpy cosplay.
I’m a fan of the Stormtroopers purposely appearing incompetent in allowing Han, Luke, Leia, and the furball to escape theory, so I’d say the Stormtroopers are always efficient.
My reaction to the judgment of the mom is summed up by the Just World Fallacy. If I can find a way to blame the mom, then I don’t have to think about the fact that something like this could happen to my child.
It’s an interesting argument, one without (to me) any satisfactory answer.
agree - I don’t necessarily have an issue with changing the ethnicity of a character I do however have an issue with straight up casting a white person in an Asian role presumably because the studio assumes that you would not be able to carry a lead by an Asian actor.
