What’s up y’all, it’s been awhile. This is what I’ve been up to in my mad lab!
Is there anything a whale tail CAN’T do?
There’s a photo of me next to my Dad’s brand new Yugo!
Hnnnnnnnng!! The only car that mattered BUT there’s more inside :)
YES! I’m a little rusty but I managed to make an entire hood from scratch. There were a few air bubbles that I sanded out and I still need to patch ‘em and put some reinforcement underneath. Best part? This thing only weighs 5 lbs versus the 40 lbs the original steel one weighed. I still got it
So I’m pretty sure I can make the car hood lighter by making a fiberglass one from scratch. I haven’t glassed in about 6 years but it should be like riding a bike! We’ll see if I’m as good as I think I am.
I’ve finished kicking the rear stiffness up a notch by installing 2 sway bars in back!
Countach racecar spelled backwards is racecar hcatnouC!
Today’s adventure is replacing the rear quarter windows with Plexiglass!
Stripped the decklid of its subframe guts, spoiler and hinges. That saved me 35 lbs today for a total savings of 198.5 lbs so far. Naturally hood pins are a must now.
Awww yeah! Project: Lightweight goes on. I stripped the rest of the interior and that yielded me 55 lbs in savings since the seats need to go back lol. Total weight savings so far is 158.5 lbs because racecar
Today I focused on the stock steel hood. I really don’t want to pay hundreds of dollars for a fiberglass one so I got a little creative!
I decided to focus on changing out some of the mechanical bits. The OEM intake was swapped over to a lighter warm-air setup and I changed out the stock starter for a lightweight gear reduction unit which should also require less power to run. Weight savings from today is 6lbs. Total so far is 98.5lbs.
Project:Lightweight is still in full swing. I managed to strip out an additional 39.5 lbs today. The total running weight saved from the racecar is 92.5 lbs. Not to shabby!
So this year’s goal is to strip as much weight from the Beretta for autocross.
So I finally decided to overcome my laziness and put on some sideskirts!
Update on the 21 yr old girl that is my race car.
Cars have come a long way since the late 1880s. You can say the same about people. Our relationship with each other and how we shaped the world is absolute. Let’s take a walk through time!
The T200 Celica and I have a very tumultuous history that dates back a decade. It was the car I’ve always wanted to call my own but never did for reasons that elude me. During my formative years, it was the only car I desired, with the runner ups being a Lamborghini Diablo and a diamond star motors Avenger.
I like ALL 31 flavors at Baskin-Robbins which applies to my taste in cars. But there is always ONE flavor you pick over all the others. Mine is vanilla. Mine is Chevrolet.
