They’re holding out for the bonuses they’re going to get when some vulture capital company buys them out, strips them for parts, then shutters the whole operation.

Unfortunately that’s probably going to be the case. EB Games used to be a thing in the States until GameStop bought it out and rebranded.

They certainly did. Half of any above-average-sized GameStop nowadays is a novelty shop.

They will become a Redbox kiosk at the Dollar General.

I’m more shocked they are still in business.  What’s the value of getting in your car and driving down to one of these places to pick up a game?  The one in my town is in a dying mall.  Unless I’m trying visit the upside down there is zero reason I want to drive to that place.

How much does the CEO make? How much do the VPs make? How about a 14% reduction of the top 14% of the company’s salary and 14% of the company’s staff gets to keep working...

That headline photo gave me a huge nostalgia trip. I remember the MW2 midnight launch like it was yesterday. I miss that.

They’ve been cratering for a few years. Stock down over 90% during a bull market. It’s a world of digital purchases and Amazon, and they have nothing to offer over either. I bought a Switch online last holiday season from Gamestop and it was bar none the worst experience I’ve ever had with a retailer.

Easier said than done, to be quite honest.

How is that wrong? Every part of that sentence is accurate.

Well said. Probably one of the best explanations as to the problems with GameStop. I would also add that they got too big too soon, with too many stores that overlapped each other. There were many stores which were located within walking distance because of their acquisitions.

I feel for these people since I’ve experienced their store layoffs back in 2011 when they closed my store. I hope they find a new job asap.

Game Informer was still around huh? Nifty. And what’s fucked up is that I grew up in the golden age of gaming mags. DAMN those were some good times. Nintendo Power art contests. EGM. OXM. PC Gamer. PSM. One of the first things I added to my PSC was a selection of the finest OPM ROMS. And then I discovered RPS and that

They really don’t. The move towards systems with large hard drives, enough to support hundreds of digital games that in effect are much harder to resell is big trouble for a company that for ages made serious bank off of reselling games.

First a bunch of managers and now 14% of their corporate staff? If “ABANDON SHIP” isn’t ringing in the head of every Gamestop employee at this point, I don’t even know what to tell them. It’s time to update that resume and find another job QUICKLY.

Yeah, my first thought was: “They didn’t already own them? This makes sense, then.”

I believe Oculus Studios was basically funding that game so I’d guess it’s still exclusive to the Rift/Rift S.

Bungie? Bungie is independent.

Insomniac owns Sunset Overdrive, so now Sony owns that IP.
