Esmail is even more intense — Soderbergh didn't even write The Knick. Esmail is writing, directing and producing all episodes of Season 2. I can't recall any one person doing all of this for a scripted TV series in recent history or ever.

Elliot could be in the mental ward. His mother isn't real. She's just a woman (perhaps nurse) who works in the mental ward.

In fact, I would encourage naysayers to watch Season 2 as a spiritual sequel to Fight Club — what happens after Project Mayhem? Maybe Season 2 of Mr. Robot will give us that.
