I stopped watching the movie about 2/3 in, then sort of fast fwd just to see what happened. When the most basic logic goes out the window it irks me. I mean, I know it’s a movie, but for chrissakes, two hops, half at a time! Jeepers.

Without messing with the cars, the only thing I can see mixing things up is mandatory pit stops that take a certain amount of time and rewarding more pit stops, because more pit stops always mixes up the soup. The easiest way to do this would be to limit tire selection to Hyper Soft tires (making it advantageous to Read more

I prefer manual seats. Quick to adjust, no “hold the button and wait”. And the spectre of all those extra ounces of motors and wires and such...

Late to the game. I misunderstood that a “rolling stop” had become law, a law that ostensibly saves gas by allowing drivers to roll through a stop if there is no traffic around.

When I took my driving test I literally sailed through a four way stop sign. The tester practically had a fit, and when he recovered a bit he Read more

Instant karma here also... My wife and young infant in the red Golf in front of me. We’d just gone and picked up some furniture so we didn’t fit in one car. The Subaru looked like it had a dad and his kid in it.

After my wife and I met, for my next birthday (i.e. the first birthday gift she got me), she got one of those “paint a ceramic thing” things. She chose a piggy bank and painted on it “Esprit Fund”.

The funds in it now are about $32,891.20 short of the $33k that would have bought the S4S that I had my eye on. My very

Reminds me of the NASCAR “teams” that qualified for whatever race, do a couple laps, and drop out. By finishing at the back of the field they could still make some serious coin, tens of thousands of dollars. I think they changed the rules to prevent this from happening.

Googled, the term is “start and park”. A team can Read more

A reminder that today’s WRC rally cars drivers are completely bonkers.

I’m not an engineer but I think two things apply. First, snow sticks best to snow, right? That’s why snow tires want to grab snow, for better traction. Second, the road surface underneath the snow can have dramatically different coefficients of friction. Read more

A long time ago my (ex-) gf got into an argument about me doing nothing.
“How can you be doing nothing? You have to be thinking of something!”

I’d think about it, try to think about what I was thinking about, and the answer was that, well, I wasn’t thinking of anything. I’d truly just zone out. Read more

My wife is in the red Golf in front of me (long live TDI!) with our 1 year old son. I was driving an Expedition, totally appropriate for commenting on this story. This is in CT also, about 5 minutes off of I-91 north of Hartford.

I have not made a clip of the front/rear dash cam bit I caught where a driver tried to

Porsche 911, from the 70s. Grew up in Holland. The Dutch police had both 911 and 914 “interceptors” painted white with bright orange. I thought they were the coolest things, didn’t really know the 914 so for me the 911 was the schnizzle. People also raced 911s (and GTVs) at a local rally cross track (which I didn’t
